This piece was made from some rippled ash that I seasoned from a full ash tree that I got from a local tree surgeon. The cut out was determined by a knot that split after drying out.

The piece was turned to the desired shape then carved using the Lancelot cutter in my angle grinder. It was then lightly scorched using a blow lamp to highlight the edges of the carving. Next the airbrush using spirit stains from red in the centre to yellow on the outer edge.

The decorated area was then lacquered with several coats. I then displayed the piece on an ebonised plinth using a chrome rod to elevate the piece to give it a sculptural aspect.
