Artistic multi-wood vessel by Anthony Yelapi.

Wood Vessel

I’m a skilled craftsmen with the lathe amongst other wood tools. I look at the wood that’s in my shop and begin with a random chunk and chuck it up.

In this case a three inch thick piece of hard maple. Put the tool to it and away I go.

it was going to be a small bowl and I decided that wasn’t enough.

One thing led to another incorporating various woods laying around, using scrap etc. This is a lidded candy dish or a piece of eye candy. Made from multiple turned pieces.

A wood turned vessel made from multiple species of wood sitting on a table.

The bottom is a mahogany tray with a Purple Heart flowered cup to hold the hard maple hollow with a black walnut split ring at the center.

Moving up the the top portion to the Cocobolo cap under a blood wood finial.

A wood turned vessel with a lid and finial created using many pieces of wood stacked on top of eachother.

I added some texturing to jazz it up.

Finished with natural stain, semi gloss poly and a finishing wax.

The inside is treated with oil and beeswax. There you have it. An imagination gone wild. Fun stuff!
